Rack panels may look like useless and unnecessary pieces of material, but they are very important. They improve ventilation in a rack, they can be used to provide access inside the rack and provide a structural support for the rack.
Rack mount patch panels are specially designed panels used in the telecommunications sector. They serve to provide conduit points for passage of telecom fibres as part of a fibre management system. There are several wall-mounted varieties of this product. Many wall-mounted rack mount patch panels come with waterproof casings to prevent any contact of water and moisture with sensitive fibre components.
To prevent dust from gathering on sensitive equipment stored on racks, especially computer and networking systems equipment, rack filler panels can be deployed in the gaps between components. Rack filler panels can be replaced.
Rack panels can be installed on a do-it-yourself basis as most rack panel manufacturers included self-installing guides.
